I don't think I can keep this book. It shows the "butterfly effect" after a bug sneezes, which is a nice way to illustrate actions and their consequences. But, as two reviewers already said, almost everyone in the book is angry or aggressive (kicking, fuming). This angry behaviour, however, ends in something that seems pretty fun (a street festival). The underlining message is then: if a bunch of beings get angry and kick each other, it all ends up in fun?
Had high hopes because of all the positive reviews but found myself very disappointed. The grammar was pretty hard to get past. In addition, the characters kicked objects when they were angry, which isn’t something I like to teach my 2.5 year old.
Out of his first books as a toddler, this was my son's favorite. He is now a grown man with a family of his own, but he still remembers the times when my wife and I read this story to him with enthusiasm and play acting. That is why we like to pass a copy of it along as baby shower gifts when possible. It is a simple story with a big message, even the small things that we do or that happen around us can have big consequences.
This is a book I used to read to my triplet granddaughters 20 years ago. I was so happy to see that it's still in print and I was able to get a copy through Amazon. Now I'm reading it to my great-granddaughter. Donna
I received this book when I was a young child, I'm 36 now and it is still a beloved classic in our family. I now purchase this book as gifts for all the kids in my life. My four-year-old thinks it is hilarious the calamity that occurs from a bug sneezing.
This was one of our 2 children's favorite story books. I read it over and over and I never got tired of repeating the story night after night. Now I have the pleasure of reading to our grandchildren with the same joy and delight. It's fun and lyrical. A family favorite for 2 generations!
This book provides the same thrill as watching a Rube Goldberg machine in action--or seeing a million dominoes falling consecutively from the push of a tiny finger.Starting with the sneeze of a little bug, a chain of events takes place that ends in a chaotic parade. The realization that each action is causing something progressively larger builds excitement for the satisfying conclusion (which shows, though doesn't state, that small actions can have big consequences).I wonder: How many millions of kids will get to hear this exhilerating story because a loving parent with a soft voice read it to their little kid a long, long time ago?
Perfect for toddlers or early readers. The story is straightforward, which makes it easy for young ones to follow. Illustrations are fun and Dr. Seuss-like.
