This is the best guidebook on Tokyo I have ever found. Others like Lonely Planet have hundreds of pages with every possible thing you could ever do, whether you want to or not. Some fancy ones try to be precious and have all kinds of high end nonsense where you can go and waste a year's income on junk you don't need. The Monocle guide is the first and only I've ever found that sifts through the massive range of options in Tokyo and focuses on a small carefully curated list of wonderful options. It's everything I could ever ask for in a city guide. A short concise list of things that are really worth doing.

It's tough to keep up with a city like Tokyo. It's a beautiful book but several of the businesses had been out of business. There were some interesting shops and restaurants that you wouldn't see in the standard guides. I wish there was a more quick reference organization to it.

I recently returned from a trip to Tokyo and found this guide to be thoroughly indispensable throughout my entire stay. It gives you a true inside scoop on where to shop (Monocle provides everything from folk art to the most modern of fashions), get an excellent cup of coffee (Cafe De L'Ambre is a must) and a fine cocktail (this is especially key in Tokyo where the mixology scene is not as prevalent. Monocle managed to steer me towards the two best cocktails I have had in my life, the first at the Old Imperial Bar and the second at Bar Trench). Granted if you want to hit all of the sightseeing areas this might not be the one and only guide to bring, but if you want to make sure that you get some of the local flavor in your journeys and do so in style, then you can do no better than this book!

Been to Japan many times and very useful guide to interesting things not on usual radar. Promos are accurate: not really for the casual one-time, quick tourist., but en for such, it's a good guide. Nice, compact size and nicely illustrated.

Quirky guide to the best of Tokyo with an emphasis on design, architecture, restaurants and retail. Some good walking tours at the end. The book is organized by topic rather than location so finding things is not all that easy. But the book is worth it nonetheless.

Workbooks are so 80's I thought to myself. Ha! Boy was I wrong. I'm literally not even to Part 1 of the book and I already feel healing in my relationship with my oldest daughter who is only 4 years old. Last night I did my first assignment from the workbook and wrote a letter to her acknowledging regrets I have from the past few years. The letter was an electrifying jumpstart in helping me let go of parenting-guilt and promising progress in our future with more connection. Basically I feel bad that I didn't understand her motives more when she would act up after her younger sister was born and that I didn't think from her perspective earlier on.... that I expected so much from her just because she was the "older" sibling when really she was only a toddler herself! Tonight, the promises from my letter were put into action: both of my daughters are sleeping on futons in our bedroom. What you ask!? (The workbook isn't pro this or that--it's just about finding ways to regulate your own feelings and connect with your kids, so this for me was one of my first steps). From the beginning both children have been trained to sleep in their own beds which is fine. But we did CIO with my oldest. Even though it was the best I could do at the time, I have always regretted it and wondered if it is part of the reason why she is not super cuddly. Could also just be the way she is. At any rate, I wanted my oldest to feel like she is always welcomed in our room and in our hearts, so this is a change I was actually very excited to make. You should have seen how thrilled she was tonight before bed! It was like Christmas morning and it filled my soul. Also recently she has been picking her nose and swallowing her boogers whole and it grosses me out so much! YUK! I have started using coercion/threats to try and get her to stop ("If you pick your boogers nobody is going to want to hold your hand." SO SAD. Why would I say this? It's true but not the way to address the issue) which of course is not working and just makes her pick her boogers facing the other direction because she thinks I can't see her! So today I told her I love her no matter what-even if her hands are slimy. From now on when she turns to me with boogie fingers, I'll just scoop her up with love while also offering her a tissue. She has already tested me once after digging for gold! Ha! Obviously I'm trying to be a little more laid back. I definitely enforce limits in our house, but maybe we don't actually need SO MANY limits. Ever since I discovered Dr. LM's books, I have been a positive parenting junky. LIFE CHANGING! Especially Peaceful Parent Happy Siblings. I don't know where we'd be without it. I'm so grateful, Dr. LM for your love of children and willingness to share all you have learned with others so we parents can fill their hearts (and at the same time ours) and they can fill the world with love. Thank you!!

Ross (Author).(IMO Her advocacy of emotion freedom technique is brief and unnecessary as it sort of cheapens the overall book)

I haven’t read any other books by this author so I can’t say how this workbook compares. But I have found this workbook to be effective on its own. There are good explanations and then places to write about your own experiences. I found the writing to be more effective in retaining information than simply just reading. I am finding her methods to be effective with my children. The title is very fitting as this book helps you become a peaceful parent.

The ultimate method to help our children regulate their emotions is to model this behavior as parents... easier said than done! Dr. Markham lays out a roadmap for parents to practice peaceful parenting in this awesome workbook. This really takes the philosophy from her work and makes it accessible and doable no matter where you’re starting in your relationship with your kids or even yourself. Two thumbs way up!!

Wonderful book. In about 1 month I have noticed a significant improvement in my family dynamic. My kids are happier, the whining has decreased tremendously. I believe whole heartedly in this style of parenting. I encourage anyone on the fence to give this a try, and stick with it because as the author mentions behavior may get worse initially but the payoff is so great!!

I just read the introduction and I think it is so important that the book has the holistic approach on parenting. It does not only teach you how to deal with kids, but how to be a better person yourself. I already feel a better parent and my kid is happy :) I find many similarities with Deepack Chopra teachings - accept yourself, this life and kids :)

I do not recommend this book to anyone, not even a seasoned collector. The photography is terrible, meaning it's out of focus, dark, full of glare or horribly off color. If you were a beginner collector looking at this book, you would be inclined to think the pattern Wheat was tinted greenish-blue. Or that Anchor White was light blue. I did note that there seemed to be no credit taken for the photos. No wonder. Someone should be ashamed of taking such horrible pictures to be published in a collectors guide! If I could give this book a minus rating I wouldn't hesitate.

This book stinks. What a bummer. There was one picture of azurite, a saucer, and 1 picture of rosite- a swirl mixing bowl.Far from comprehensive, the prices were way off, many of the pictures are too dark to really see the color. Many of the dates are missing or are very broad. Not worth it at all. Invest in one of the better ones.

Not as helpful as a reference as any of my other pottery/glassware books. Crappy quality pictures and a very poor layout. Looks like it was made on a copy machine.
