This is a very informative and well written travel guide, which includes hotel and restaurant recommendations. DK's recommendations are usually reliable. One cavil: there is no mention of the Phoenix area light railway, which is an excellent way of getting to those parts of Phoenix and Tempe which its route covers. It is relatively cheap to use--an all day ticket costs $4.00--and is relatively new, very well maintained, extremely clean and perfectly safe. While it does not go to Scottsdale it does go to the wonderful Heard Museum with its rich collection of North American Indian (and other aboriginal peoples') artifacts. It should not have been omitted from this guide. While it is true that you can go to most places by rental car, and Phoenix downtown is disfigured by huge humbers of mammoth parking garages, the light railway is a pleasant, stressless and inexpensive way to get around.

I've bought the DK books for years, it has been my preferred travel guide for overseas trips. This one for Arizona disappoints. The paper quality is thinner and not "waxy" as in the past to avoid stains and wear--the entire book is thinner, and there is no map included as with other locations. Also, key sites are not listed (Antelope Canyon, for example). Internal layouts for key locations do not include maps (Canyon de Chelly, for example). This really seems geared for the fly-by in a car tourist who doesn't really want to experience anything. If this is the new style for DK, I'm no longer a fan.

I am a big fan of the DK Eyewitness Travel Books. This particular volume covers southern Arizona (the desert area), northern Arizona (the Grand Canyon and Flagstaff), and the Four Corners area (the Navajo Nation, Mesa Verde, and Monument Valley). I could have wished that this volume covered more of either Utah, New Mexico or Colorado making a thicker volume, but this one was more pinpointed. Information was current, and all of the helpful suggestions about visiting the Grand Canyon were spot on.My grandmother had tried to help us prepare for our trip by getting materials from AAA, but the four guide books she got from AAA paled in comparison to this one succinct volume. The short history and cultural explanation was perfect for helping my husband become acquainted with the area, and the hotel and restaurant suggestions in the back cover a range without being overwhelming like some guide books.The only correction to make since the publication of this volume is that the Toy and Doll Museum which was previously located in downtown Phoenix near Pioneer Square moved in April 2015 to a new location. That aside, I will continue to purchase DK Eyewitness Travel guides for their clarity, ease of reading, and photos. DK Eyewitness Travel guides also make it easy to decide how to manage your time and what to prioritize on your trip. Happy traveling!

I can't put it down. It's packed with great ideas for family ministry.

I am not in the ministry but I do have a longing to reach children and their families and bring them to Christ, with a living and life long relationship. Most churches prefer to have families separated the moment they walk through the door – we don’t want babies to cry and distract us, we don’t want a bored child coloring on a piece of paper and we don’t want a teen who hasn’t been taught to be present in church falling asleep. What if it could look different with families engaged with one another and also engaged in Christ and being fully present together? I knew that dairy was a huge issue for asthmatics, but until reading this book, never realized the role egg whites play in contributing to asthma symptoms. All of my asthma symptoms were gone within days of folllowing the advice in “Reversing Asthma”, and I have remained off any medications for 6 years now.I have bought this book as a gift and shared it with many people.

This is a good book. There is only one other book Allergies and Asthma Cure by Pescatore that is designed to get one off medications. but this book is funneling patients towards the Functional medicine with lots of high tech testing approach that is exorbitantly expensive if you don't.have insurance.. So buy both books. But then this book is wider in scope and discusses breathing eercises that is helpful for most patients have insurance.

I ordered this book out of desperation, as I had no insurance and could no longer afford the Advair inhaler that I had been taking.The first chapter is about the author's (who is a doctor) experience of a lifetime with severe asthma. He had just gotten out of the hospital after a life threatening asthma attack. He stepped out onto the street, a bus went by leaving a trail of black smoke, and after merely breathing that air he had to be readmitted immediately. He knew there had to be a better way than inhalers, which become ineffective over time. This story is what really hooked me; he is talking both as a doctor and as a patient.I read everything, followed all of the suggestions, and went from using my rescue inhaler twice a day to maybe twice a year! And now I don't use the Advair at all.Everyone's asthma is different, so you have to read everything and tailor a program for yourself. For me personally, I bought two air purifiers (from Lowe's at $100 each) and put one in my living room and one in the bedroom. They've been running constantly (and don't really put much of a dent in the electric bill), and they really help take the nasty stuff out of the air. You should also dust and vacuum more frequently, of course.The biggest thing that helped me was the supplements, especially the magnesium. This is what enabled me to stop using the advair. I take magnesium, vitamin E, vitamin C (large doses) and beta carotene. Prior to this I had never even taken a daily vitamin. It sounds like a pain, but it sure beats paying $150 a month for Advair, + $60 for rescue inhalers. I noticed an improvement in a week. I had to figure out what I needed by reading what each supplement does, what triggers my asthma, my environment, etc. You will have to do this too. My plan might not work for you.There are also breathing exercises that will improve your lung capacity.If you have asthma and you want to get away from inhalers, read this book!

Full of very useful information.

As a lifelong asthma sufferer and an Ehlers-Danlos Patient, I was told my prognosis was poor. The drugs were destroying my body and yet were no longer relieving the problems. When my daughter starting suffering herself, I found this book...and now our whole approach to healing is thru diet and supplementation. Within a year, both of us are better than the doctors could have imagined. This book has paid for itself hundreds of times over, in the lack of doctor visits and medicne co-pays alone!

This book was very informative and accurate. The exercises are great too. I would recommend this book to anyone with an uncontrolled asthma problem. Try to stay off the steriods and antibiotics which eventually bring on diabetes.

Fish oil and magnesium. Who would've guessed? I seldom need my emergency inhaler anymore. Definitely worth the money.

This is an extremely thoughtful visual and textual sketch of Rao Pingru's relationship and love for his wife through the years in which China has undergone transformations that are almost beyond recognition. I think a five star rating should be carefully given but I have no hesitation in doing so for this wonderful work--it has earned it in every way.The story is told in a broad pastiche with each page joining the text with Pingru's watercolor/ink (I am not sure which--perhaps someone can weigh in on this) drawings. He recounts his time as an officer in the second world war and how his life, and that of his wife's unfolded thereafter. That he spent two decades in a re-education camp is mentioned as part of the narrative and not the main theme--it really is about the dedication and love that he has hedged all his adult life for his wife. A remarkable story.Not only were the drawings/sketches fascinating, but the volume is beautifully bound. If you like to hold books, turn the pages, and savor the experience of reading from the printed page then this is a first class treat.I look forward to those with serious knowledge of Chinese culture adding their reviews as this is the kind of text that serves to open opportunities to learn more.I liked this one--a lot. Got this for my mom as a Christmas gift and she loved it! This is a sweet book with lots of interesting content and moving memories. The illustrations are absolutely delightful! Recommend for people who enjoy memoirs.

Pati Jinich’s first book sits on my counter and I refer to it often and was very excited for her second to be released. I have not been disappointed. The recipes are fresh and exciting, truly mixing past and present with both ingredients, historical perspectives and a true sensibility of the way people eat today.I love the format of the recipes. They are clearly written with the prep time, cook time and make ahead option listed up front, which makes for easy planning. I read another reviewer who said the ingredients were hard to find, and while some might be depending on where you live, there are alternatives listed. I live in a city and have not had any trouble locating ingredients for the recipes I’ve tried.The frequent sections of “Cook’s Tips” are filled with useful tidbits of advice. I cook often, but rarely go out on a limb and away from what I’m comfortable with. Pati Jinich makes me want to try different recipes and ingredients I never thought of. Her voice when telling the short stories that top each recipe are entertaining and fun to read, often including family anecdotes and entertaining moments. The large colorful blocks of information scattered throughout the book that discuss ingredients, methods, techniques and background information are visually exciting, educational, and often, a little bit sassy!I love the photography, the color choices and the idea that Mexican food can join any other type of food we make and enhance it. A true fusion of foods across our cultural kitchens. I love it.

I am in love with Pati Jinich and her show, she is delightful. Her energy, personality, stories and cooking always make me smile and want to eat Mexican food. I read that that this is for the modern kitchen and do find a wide assortment of practical recipes that can be easily made. I am a serious cook and I will search out any ingredients I need to have. Patti suggests some items that can now be found in a lot of major food stores, but also let's you know that you can work around not having something on hand.I don't know if you have looked up this woman's background, she comes from the business world and her credential are quite impressive. I have a hundred cookbooks, and use many of them beside e-books. This book has been my return to real print on paper pages cookbook. What a relief. If you watch her shows you will not be disappointed. If you haven't you haven’t, you might want to check her out on public television. I have found out that she will be giving a talk and cooking demo in my area and will bring this book in for her autograph. I feel like a kid again. What can I say, I like Mexican food, and as I mentioned, I am in love with this woman, because she is practical, down to earth and has great simple recipes. Hope this helps you.

I am the proud owner of Pati's Mexican Kitchen, I use her recipes frequently. So when I learned the second book was to be released, I immediately ordered pre publication. I was not disappointed when Mexican Today arrived. My friend ordered one as well and we are currently cooking our way through the book.We live in Mexico and find the pride and enthusiasm that Patti exhibits in her stories and recipes is so indicative of the Mexican people. If you love Mexican food, then you need both of Patti's books.

Simple and authentic Mexican recipes. As good, if not better than her first book; with easy to find ingredients. Cilantro can replace epazote for example. Most chiles and chile pastes can now be bought in Mexican stores in your area; unless there aren't any Mexican communities near you. Then order online; they are available. And, did I say delicious ! ? Try her simple black beans and use cilantro if epazote is not available. That's what I did and they came out perfect and with an indescribable flavor. When I reheated them the next day, the perfume of the cilantro lessened so i added a whole jalapeño to the pot and slowly brought the beans up to slow boil. Not hot, just a delicious extra flavor added to the pot of black beans. Buen provecho!

I've only made one recipe from this book and I have to say its the best mexican food I've ever had and it was incredibly easy to understand as well as fun to prepare. I made the Macaroni with Chipotle Chicken and we had a difficult time not eating all of it between the 2 of us, the leftovers were just as good the next day. Highly recommend this cookbook.

This is our second cook book from Pati and it's a gem. I've made a bunch of the taco recipes and they've all been great, but last Sunday I made the Chicken in a Red Mole that sealed the deal. I didn't stray from the recipe and I even found the special cinnamon. This dish is worth the price of admission for this book and I will make it until the day I die. It's very special. If you can make it a day ahead, do so. It's like chili or Lasagna where it's twice as good the next day.

Pati Jinich has once again brought Mexican food into my house in such a pleasing way! This cookbook is beautifully laid out, with gorgeous photos and recipes that look mouth-watering (I haven't tried them yet, but have ear-marked many pages). I'm already a fan because I have her first cookbook that is stained and beaten up by over-use, and am excited to try some of her new recipes such as the drunken rice with chicken and chorizo or the tuna tataki tostadas. What I like about her cookbooks is that the recipes are creative, but don't require a million ingredients that can only be found at specialty stores. Also, the taco section in this new book is thorough. Pati has put her mark on the traditional recipes and has also come up with some new combinations. I can't wait to try the plantain tacos with walnut, pepita and sunflower seed crunch. If you want to cook authentic Mexican cuisine, I urge you to try some of Pati's recipes, you will do your taste buds a favor.

I bought this book because it features a parrot as the main character. The book has cheerful, brightly colored illustrations. In Buddhist cultures these stories are performed through song and dance at festivals, and told to children as part of their morality training.This particular tale introduces seasons, the interdependency of all beings, and the value of loyalty. A parrot refuses to abandon his good friend, a fig tree, even during winter when the tree has no figs, and eventually even when it is destroyed by a storm. I finally bought Sorcerer's Stone for my Kindle to see what all the fuss was about...and because, I admit, I've always wanted a little magic in my life in some form. J.K. Rowling does not disappoint. Her writing is geared toward children, so there are some things I would normally object to, such as telling over showing, narrative summary, and the use of adverbs to describe how people do and say things. But again, considering the audience, I'm inclined to let that stuff slide.The story itself is, as I mentioned, enchanting. Harry has the perfect pair of eyes through which to view Hogwarts for the first time. Reading this book felt like starting at a new school myself--everything is new and different, there are new friends and adversaries to meet, and adventure waits everywhere. J.K. Rowling does a beautiful job describing and presenting the Hogwarts environment. Harry, Ron, and Hermione deal with typical middle school stuff, such as strict teachers and school bullies. But how many other kids do you know who also bond over getting a mountain troll out of the girls' room? Playing a literally killer game of chess? Smuggling a dragon onto the school roof so it can be transported to safety? Each mini-adventure and plot point is excellently done.As for the characters, they're engaging and incite plenty of empathy. This is especially true and important for protagonist Harry. In the beginning, he naturally incites a lot of pathos, but this boy is not a victim. Once he gets his legs under him, and his self-esteem gets a needed boost, he becomes quite the little hero without being obnoxious about it. My favorite scenes definitely involve him standing up to Draco Malfoy, especially for other students like Neville.Ron gets a chuckle every now and then, although he's frustratingly impulsive at times. Basically, he's the kind of kid you just want to hug. As for Hermione, I can see her becoming one of my fictitious soul sisters. Like her, I was a diligent and perfectionist student, though I hope for my classmates' sake I wasn't quite that much of a know-it-all. Like Hermione, I also struggled with making friends, but those I have are friends for life. (I'm not gonna lie; I'm kind of mad and disappointed that this isn't the Hermione Granger series).J.K. throws in a couple of twists at the end; they're nothing an adult couldn't figure out, but they are enjoyable. I also loved the trio's final adventure as they searched for the Stone, particularly Hermione's talent at solving the logic puzzle. Other highlights for me included the Mirror of Erised, Harry's first Quidditch game against Slytherin, and Hagrid himself, a well-drawn secondary character. He sort of acts as Harry's fairy godfather...or should that be hairy godfather?For any parents who might be wondering about the witchcraft element: No worries. What's here is downright tame, if it exists at all. It's mostly kids waving wands around, changing matches into needles, and learning how to fly on broomsticks. The scene in the Forbidden Forest involves some talk of astrology and the slaying of a unicorn, but nothing too intense. Personally, I'm ready to put on my Ravenclaw robes, pick up my fictional wand (beechwood with unicorn core, 10.5 inches, slightly springy) and read the next book.

SPECIAL NOTE: For U.S. customers purchasing the illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, you will notice the text has NOT been converted to the "Americanized" version of the original U.S. releases (with the exception of changing all "Philosopher's Stone" mentions to "Sorcerer's Stone"). So far, I have noticed the following: (EU/US) dialling / dialing; Shan't! / Won't!; sherbet lemon / lemon drop; motorbike / motorcycle; and dustbin / trashcan. For many purists of the series who never liked the idea of modifying the original text for an American audience, this is a good thing. Good or bad is naturally for each reader to decide--just know, if you plan to read the books while listening to Jim Dale's audiobooks, you'll notice a few superficial differences.The quality of this new illustrated edition is phenomenal. I've been excited about the release of this book since it was announced, but I never expected the book as a whole to be so well crafted.A couple of things to note:1. Underneath the book jacket, the novel is bound in a sturdy red hardback with gold lettering on the spine.2. The paper is thick with an eggshell glossy finish.3. All chapter intros are illustrated.4. Some images take up full pages or multiple pages. Most illustrations share the page with text.5. Every inch of the book is illustrated or decorated in some fashion. There are NO white pages in the book. Even the pages without large illustrations have the paper printed and marked with ink blots or paper "stains".I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to read the series (again, or for the first time), especially if you plan to read this with someone younger. If this book is a demonstration of what is to come with the illustrated editions for the rest of the series, we're all in for six more impeccable treats.

I LOVE THE STORY. Illustrations are great. PROBLEM is that the book came missing pages 153-168 because 137-152 were printed twice. It took me a week to realize this. You will want to check your books. I'm sure Amazon will take care of me but thank goodness I wasn't gifting this.

These illustrated editions of Harry Potter were done right! All of the original text is there and the artwork is beautiful. Every page has something, whether it's an illustration that takes up a full double page spread, a little drawing in the corner, a thematic border, or just a visually textured background. It may sound chaotic, like the visuals could be too much and break up the flow of reading but it is not; it enhances the story as you turn the pages and delight in the new visuals that each page brings. I imagine these would be a great way to bring children into the story, but they're so nice you may want to protect and collect these beauties. I can't wait for them to release the others.

I think this is my third reading of the Harry Potter series. The first time is a precious memory to me. Our four children would all climb into our king size bed before bedtime and we would read one or two chapters each evening. We homeschooled so, as each child's reading progressed, they read a part too. Their mom died. They're in late 20s now. Five grandkids. Those will be ready to read to before we know it. But life is not always neatly packaged. I married a widow and moved us all. Today they are off to their own lives. My four and I are scattered across four states and even overseas. So, I'm reading to myself now. I can't make a stronger recommendation than to say that I immediately purchased "The Order Of The Phoenix" after finishing this one. I also have the set in hardbound on the bookshelf beside me. But Kindle is just too convenient. *smile*

Such a colorful and fun book for little ones! My 18 m.o. really loves to point to the stars and the moon, and I love reading it to her! Hopefully this will help to encourage a fascination with the night sky, our solar system, and science in general.

This book is colorful and educational. I as an adult learned something new in the first couple pages. My 20 month old loves everything space related and is totally enamored by it! I actually just found out this author wrote a weather book too and plan to get it too!!!

My son loves this book and I would give it 5 stars if it was made better. I ordered this book several months ago, but after about a month of lots of reading, the paper/film with the image started separating from the board on the middle page (Saturn) and it eventually split down the middle beyond repair. I just ordered a replacement copy - my son loves it so much that he's sleeping with it at night, but now, after only one day, I've had to add tape to the same area in an effort to stop it from separating again - sadly, I feel that will only work for a little while.

I bought this book for our grandson who is 2 1/2. Once I gave it to him he insisted on sitting on my lap and have it read to him. The bright colors and shapes appealed to him and as he is interested in the solar system, the book was a hit.

I purchased this book for my 20 month old daughter to introduce her to simple concepts about science. She absolutely loved the book as soon as I opened it. It’s colorful, has great illustrations as well as short and interesting facts about each planet.Not a deal Breaker for me but it does list Pluto in the book. It is however, correctly labeled as a dwarf planet, which it was demoted to in August 2006 by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). If you are concerned with any confusion regarding Pluto it may not be the book for you.Personally I loved it and plan on purchasing a few more of the author’s books!

As a huge fan of collage art (think The Very Hungry Caterpillar), I was so happy with this book. There are broad sentences about each celestial feature followed by a little "fun fact". Perfect for inspiring the imagination and visually appealing. The board book looks like it will hold up to years of love.

This is a wonderful book! My son was 17 months old when we got this book and he insisted on reading it every night for about a month and then from time to time since then. It has a page for every planet in the solar system and something quite cool is that although the illustrations are colorful drawings, many of the planets look surprisingly close to the real photographs of the planets. There are a few interesting facts about each planet - just enough for little ones to find interesting. My son is walks around now saying 'Jupiter!' 'Largest!' 'Great Red Spot!'. Very happy with this book!

My son is telling everyone he meets that we live on planet earth after careful study of this beautiful book. He has also decided ladybugs should live on Venus (unrelated observation). The artwork is truly beautiful (I don't often think that even with the all of the praise heaped upon illustrations for children's books these days) and the facts presented are interesting without being overly complex. My 2 1/2 year old and I heartily recommend.

I purchased 5 books these for my 84 year old mom who has Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I skimmed over parts of the books. My Mom found easy explanations about the Irritable Bowel, Diverticulosis vs Diverticulitis, and Colitis. She Learned more about the foods that she should avoid and the reasons. She found many helpful dinner recipes. The books were easy to read in layperson language. I'am a Nurse of 20 years. This is a general review for all five books that I purchased.

After recently being diagnosed with RA, I found this book and quickly ordered. It really helped calm my nerves and is helpful. The author (an RA patient herself) helps guide through the process and advises on do's & don't through experience & research. A must read if newly diagnosed.

After 28 years of suffering in hell. This book has changed my life. NONE of the many, many doctors has ever suggested the things in this book. I had one idiot doctor tell me I had to eat more Bran. WRONG KIND OF FIBER. I have almost completely pain free from following what the books says to do. I eat tummy friendly foods and avoid the ones that make it flair up. I take the soluble fiber tablets which are really working. I CAN'T RECOMMEND THIS BOOK HIGHLY ENOUGH.

I have suffered with IBS my entire life and I am retired now. Diagnosed in 1980. Found this book in 2005. Written by a woman from Seattle who suffered since childhood. She has done all the work by eliminating problem food, etc. So I bought the book and used all her info. She has a few recipes, too. It dramatically changed my life by directing me to the correct food and the elimination of the wrong food causing severe cramps and diarrhea. I know the causes such as...do not eat artificial sugars! Causes severe cramps and diarrhea just like Lactose Intolerance which I have.

Heather's work is outstanding. Her program is the only one that brought me relief from my IBS symptoms. Thank God for the work she did through the years. Doctors and gastroenterologists couldn't bring me relief and didn't even seem to believe me that I was in pain. Following her program, I can stay completely symptom-free!

After getting very little information from my family doctor and a gastroenterologist, I was very frustrated! This book described my symptoms and explained why I was having them. I made the dietary changes suggested and have completely reversed my IBS symptoms! I'm a teacher, on my feet, and trapped in my room all day. Running to the bathroom 6-7 times was not an option. Thank you Heather Van Vorous!

Enormous help! One change has improved situation 80%!

I have struggled for years with stomach issues, and have tried the latest advice saying eat whole wheat, whole grains, and lots of lettuce and yogurt. All of these things are IBS triggers! I was also surprised to hear that good quality white bread has fiber in it (it is the kind of fiber that is easy on the stomach). Well, that is something that is not talked about in today's health magazines and shows, but now I see why I was so miserable. This book is changing my life in a positive way and I will buy Heather's other items too.
