I just received my preorder of The Chrystal Wisdom Healing Oracle. I am unfamiliar with the author's work. Through surfing the internet I happened upon Judy Hall's site recently and decided to give her new deck a chance, since it felt like a strong synchronicity that I discovered Hall and her work just as her new deck was being published. The presentation upon opening the box is very nice. It feels and looks very sophisticated and it resonates with the crystals beautifully with the silver accents. I liked that the box opens like a drawer. Very clean. As is my custom with a new deck, I pulled a first card with the dual intention of introducing the deck's energy and insight into my current goals. I pulled Garnet, and the image immediately spoke to me. The information about the card fit my situation very well, and is truly helpful. I love how the images are done. There was great care taken to photograph the crystals. They are on a black background with the lovely effect of a reflection of the crystal. The name of the crystal and card number to go with the book are done in such a way as to not distract from the crystal image. The cards are a nice size with beautiful silver gilt edge and a subtle silver/gray gradation image for the back of the card. There is also a color border which is part of the information for each card. The book has a lot of information for such a small volume. This is a very good resource and tool. It would be good for a beginner or anyone no matter their level of expertise because the cards are so full of the energy of the crystal they represent. I have another "crystal" deck, and the images do not carry the actual crystal energy as this deck does. My only complaint is the tiny print is very difficult to read. The convenient size and thoughtful design of the box and book makes up for this. A lot of value is packed into this deck and book. I am happy I made the impulse decision to purchase.

Amazing cards. I definitely felt the energy they carry as soon as I opened the package. The pictures on the cards were very beautiful and vibrant. I know some reviews seem not to like the silver/white/grey back of the car deck. However, I thought it was brilliant to not give color to the back of the cards to avoid interfering with the energy that the stone card is carrying. Given the fact that colors carry its own vibrations, then it would make sense to make the back silver or colorless. I love how it matches the silver lining on the side of the rims of the cards (gild). The booklet was the most complete I ever had and although I will have to get use to reading this cards, I feel I will get good pretty soon. They cards meanings in the book have to be sort of “translated” into your own situations because they are mostly related to healing specific situations. But over all, supper happy and supper amazing.

I love these cards!! A five spread reading opens up a whole new world of understanding. I have had a deep desire to move from my current location, the card told me to move now would not be wise. Once you get into Judy halls crystal wisdom healing oracle cards you're whole world changes. You start to see things better I highly recommend these cards, one reading will give you all the answers you seek!

Great product. Comes in a nice slide out case. Inside you will find a very informative 120 page booklet which teaches u how to apply the cards to the "healing and transformation" process, tells about the "Therapeutic use of Crystals", the "Healing Affinities" of all 50 crystals and is very detailed in the descriptions, Chakra Imbalances", how to "lay the cards on or around the body", AND THAT'S just in the 1st chapter!!! There's a total of 3 chapters. I haven't read the book yet since I just received this box in the mail yesterday. However, I'm so excited to read, learn, and try it out!! Besides the booklet, u also get 50 crystal cards printed on heavy card stock and each crystal is beautifully printed on the cards!! I'd definitely order from this Author again and recommend this purchase to many others! Thank you and bless you!

I have had a crystal deck earlier but these are Worth Buying. So unique and such a strong essence to these cards. I am just a beginner in crystals but when I read these cards it was as if they spoke to me without me opening the book to know about a crystal. Must buy for crystal lovers or beginners 💫💫💫

I love this deck. It's well made and thoughtful. It's a great accompaniment to the tarot, but is a great stand alone tool for divination, inward seeking and journaling, or wherever your spiritual path is leading. Also a great tool for learning more about crystals and crystal healing. The cards and book are also of terrific quality. I was absolutely impressed.

Anything with Judy Halls name on it I buy because her stuff is top notch quality and delivers beautiful messages and insightful information. Im always impressed with her items. These oracle cards are beautiful and really resonate with me. I bought a couple of her books and know this is worth every penny.

I listened to the audiobook version of this book, and the minute I was finished listening to it the first time, I wanted to listen to it again. I didn't because I have several other audiobooks in my library to listen to, but I really wanted to because it was that good.So Cath is basically me...No really. My name is Katherine (which her's would have been if she wasn't a twin although spelled differently), and the college she's attending sounds a lot like the college I attended (although I went to a private school not a major state university). She is more of a city girl than I am, but that was really a very small facet of her personality as it pertains to the story. And like Cath, I'm a major Harry Potter fan (and let's face it, Simon Snow is pretty similar to Harry Potter). What I'm saying is that I really related to Cath and it took pretty much zero effort to step into her shoes, and that might be part of why I wanted to listen to the story again immediately, because the ending of her story was more what I'd wanted for my life at her age, but I didn't get there.As far as the audiobook goes, I felt the narrator was perfect for Cath's voice. The accent was neutral to my ears (as it should be for a midwestern girl), and while the opposite gender voices weren't spectacular, they also didn't seem like caricatures. The Simon Snow and fanfic sections of the book were narrated by a man with a British accent and it worked well to set those segments apart from the main story. I would definitely recommend this as an audiobook if you enjoy them.Overall I give Fangirl 5 out of 5 stars.

Twin sisters, Cath and Wren, have been inseparable until their freshman year of college when Wren decides she wants to go out on her own. Cath is not only left without her sister, but also her best friend as she embarks on this new journey. She ends up hiding from the world (only attending classes because she has to) and we discover her obsession with Simon and Baz which just so happens to be the Harry Potter series! We become fully invested in Cath’s life. We watch as she comes out of her shell, learns to stand up for herself, creates friendships, and even falls in love.The whole book was perfection. I freaking ADORED it. It was not only super cute, but it felt so REAL. It was easy to connect with Cath, to feel what she was going through, and to completely understand all the crazy emotions that come up especially having gone through it. I loved all the characters and the snippets from the Simon Snow series as well as the Fanfixx. But my favorite part… Levi and Cath!! I’m such a sucker for an adorable love story!Honestly, I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I did. It is one that quickly stole my heart and didn’t let go. I will definitely be rereading this again and again!!

I've never given 1/4 stars before, but I've finally settled on a good 3.75 star rating. The first half of the book was a fun take on the life of an introvert geek. I felt it was right up my alley and so easy to read. I did find that the second half dragged more than the first, but was still entertaining overall. My biggest problem with the book is centered around the relations between Cath and her new boyfriend. Cath has a lot of insecurities and anxieties (which could have been addressed a bit more, I think ie. possible medications?) and there was a span of time where her new boyfriend seemed to really be pressuring her to take their relationship to a more physical level. That's fine as long as both parties are in favour of the change, but when I kept reading Cath apologize over and over to her boyfriend for how her discomfort was making her behave around him, and he appeared to be subtly guilting her into more and more...well, that turned me off of him quite a bit. Also, I know I seem to be in the minority on this but I found the descriptions of their first night of (partial) physical intimacy to be really awkward and cheesy! "I want to make an honest woman of his chin" lol Really? And rubbing her face all over his facial features (ear, chin, widow's peak) like a cat with catnip? Perhaps RR wrote it that way on purpose and if so, my apologies but I found myself rolling my eyes quite a bit during that whole scene! I did enjoy the fanfic scenes and look forward to reading Carry On in the near future.

Most readers will knowJerome Groopman from his essays in the New Yorker, which take on a wide variety of complex medical conditions, evocatively communicating the tensions and emotions of both doctors and patients.But this book is something different: a sustained, incisive and sometimes agonized inquiry into the processes by which medical minds—brilliant, experienced, highly erudite medical minds—synthesize information and understand illness. How Doctors Think is mostly about how these doctors get it right, and about why they sometimes get it wrong: "[m]ost errors are mistakes in thinking. And part of what causes these cognitive errors is our inner feelings, feelings we do not readily admit to and often don't realize." Attribution errors happen when a doctor's diagnostic cogitations are shaped by a particular stereotype. It can be negative: when five doctors fail to diagnose an endocrinologic tumor causing peculiar symptoms in "a persistently complaining, melodramatic menopausal woman who quite accurately describes herself as kooky." But positive feelings also get in the way; an emergency room doctor misses unstable angina in a forest ranger because "the ranger's physique and chiseled features reminded him of a young Clint Eastwood—all strong associations with health and vigor." Other errors occur when a patient is irreversibly classified with a particular syndrome: "diagnosis momentum, like a boulder rolling down a mountain, gains enough force to crush anything in its way." Great reminder for physicians on common cognitive errors and how to avoid them as much as possible. The theme of trying to attach a diagnosis to a patient that doesn't quite fit, often based on their demographics or what is 'most likely' is reiterated throughout the book. Of course common conditions can present in uncommon ways, but the emphasis on trying to reach a diagnosis right away opens up the risk of missing something important - one example cited aortic dissection misdiagnosed as musculoskeletal pain and another a compression fracture that turned out to be cancer in a young boy. While these examples are extreme they are certainly not unheard of. Another was overreliance on clinical algorithms which resonated with me.As a neurology resident we commonly evaluate patients with suspected stroke and grade the severity based on several exam findings which together make up the NIH stroke scale. This score helps determine whether to administer a clot busting drug called tpa, which can decrease the disability caused by a stroke but comes with a nontrivial risk of bleeding, both systemically and in the brain. While a high score indicates a severe stroke (or some other global process mimicking a stroke), a low score can be deceptive, as even a low score can indicate significant disability. For example, one patient working in a very cognitively demanding field had intact motor function and speech but was unable to accurately calculate even simple equations. His score was 1 (the highest score is 32). While some may argue that the patient had a low score, without treatment he would not have been able to continue his career- a large consequence for someone in their prime. The decision was made to give the patient the drug, and the next day his Mri indeed showed small strokes in a part of the brain important in solving calculations. He had no residual symptoms, and no untoward side effects from the drug. The idea of treating each patient as an individual is thus emphasized.Another point made in the book was not to prematurely write a symptom off as being psychological. I once admitted a patient with acute onset of altered mentation and agitated behavior who had recently lost their family member. The family had reiterated that the loss was a month ago and that up until a few days prior to coming into the hospital the patient had been completely normal with the exception of some normal grief. She had gone to another hospital prior who felt that this may have been psychological, as the patient had imaging that turned out normal and labs which showed no drug ingestion. I admitted that while I had some ideas for what may be causing it, we would need further testing to confirm. An eeg showed a pattern consistent with encephalitis and the patient was found to have suspected autoimmune encephalitis, which presents with very bizarre neuropsychiatric symptoms (read the book Brain on Fire if interested). She responded beautifully to a course of treatment that dampened the immune system's abnormal response.Of course there are the misses too- a time that I once thought a brain wave test on a child with autism and tics signified seizures, but in retrospect was artifact from repetitive hand movements the child was making.Overall, I loved this book. While the information presented is going to be familiar to most physicians, it will make you think critically about your practice behaviors and how to improve upon them, as well as the limitations of medicine.

What has been more difficult is communicating with my physicians. 10 months ago, I took my health into my own hands and changed my diet and supplementation. It has been an about face in my health. Blood and cardiac tests do not lie. I have kept what I am doing from my doctors in order not to second guess all my efforts in such a short time. This book helped me immensely in my last primary and cardiologist appointments in finally coming off most of my meds and replacing them with supplementation. Before reading this book I was met with raised eyebrows, but I am now able to tactfully communicate to my doctors that I am more than a "patient medical googler" and someone that has finally became responsible for my own health.

There are doctors that follow the tune that the Medical Industrial Complex plays, and there are ones who buck the trend. Dr. Groopman is one of the latter, thankfully.In How Doctors Think, The New Yorker staff writer and Harvard professor of medicine & researcher Dr. Groopman offers a distinctive look into the structure of Big Medica in search for what exactly is the type of mindset Doctors employ when practicing their jobs.Groopman does a compelling job throughout the book in making sure he relates the plights plaguing medicine from both sides of the coin, from the patients perspective, as well as from the perspective of a physician. This aids in the book not being one sided. It helps greatly that he’s also a Doctor with experience in this very field.From medical, money, marketing, uncertainty, dogma, to various other components of medicine, Groopman attempts to turn over as many stones as possible in his search for what issues are the ones plaguing Doctors the most.A notable point in the book that hit close to home, which many people will relate to is the emotional tension that can arise at times between patients and their doctors. Essentially, whether patients and doctors like each other. In studies of primary care physicians and surgeons, patients knew remarkably accurately how the doctor actually felt about them. Much of this, of course, comes from nonverbal behavior: the physician’s facial expressions, how he is seated, whether his gestures are warm and welcoming or formal and remote. “The doctor is supposed to be emotionally neutral and evenhanded with everybody,” Hall said, “and we know that’s not true.”[1]What’s worse, is that Hall’s research indicated:“…that the sickest patients are the least liked by doctors, and that very sick people sense this disaffection. Overall, doctors tend to like healthier people more.”[2] So much for quality health care.Along with the above example, the author additionally notes many other examples of issues that arise due to a crisis in communication which can arrive in myriad ways.In fact, one of these issues that Groopman relates is that:“…on average, physicians interrupt patients within eighteen seconds of when they begin telling their story.”[3]Another salient aspect of Big Medica that the author sunk his teeth into was the psychological aspect of medicine. Predictably, far too often doctors/western medicine view the patients psychological components as being apart from the body, rather than taking a much-needed holistic approach.Additionally, the institutional dogma that reigns down from the top is also touched upon in a few instances by the author. Open-mindedness is scoffed at, while conformity was expected.Recounting an example of choosing between the availability of multiple medical options regarding a particular treatment, Groopman relates something noted by physician Jay Katz, who taught at Yale Law school at the time:“In both [treatments]…we were educated for dogmatic certainty, for adopting one school of thought or the other, and for playing the game according to the venerable, but contradictory, rules that each institution sought to impose on staff, students and patients.”[4]Another disturbing component that doctors acquiesce to that is covered by Groopman is how doctors far too often give into to corporate interests. This very issue has covered by other doctors such as Dr. Brogan, Dr. Breggin, Dr. Mercola and many others.This book sheds much needed light into the inner workings of how doctors operate – how they think. A colleague of mine gave me this book after I graduated vet school. It's an excellent look into the thought process doctors use when diagnosing and prescribing treatments, and highlights some of the common hangups they can experience that can lead to a misdiagnosis. I recommend this book to any doctor and any patient, it's well written and holds your interest. Indeed, I reread it every few years to remind myself not to fall into the common mind traps that lead to mistakes.

This is a solid, across-the-board book on every aspect of the art if Ventriloquism.Despite what a few Reviewers say, the lesson on how we breathe is vitally important. Until you can breathe using your diaphram, your ventriliquil voice will be thin, and you will easy feel out of breath.As a practicing Vent for over 50 years, I greatfully and confidentally recommend this book.

While I am a practicing ventriloquist, I am always looking for ways to improve my craft. I have read many books and watched, "How To", Videos over the years and I have to say, this book has loads of information in it and I did pick up some good pointers to add in my own pursuit of excellence. This Book is all inclusive and I believe a must for any aspiring or even for the accomplished ventriloquist!I would recommend this book, especially to beginner Vents, as it covers not only the craft but how to get the all important, "Stage Time" and how to sell yourself, once you have attained the degree of proficiency you will need to actually begin to perform for people.I could not put the book down until I completed it and I expect I will use it as a reference for many years to come. I am in the process of re-learning ventriloquism. I bought two resources. One was the classic training program for ventriloquists, The Maher Home Course of Ventriloquism, and the other was The Complete Idiot's Guide to Ventriloquism.The Maher Course has always been the standard by which all other ventriloquism training has been judged. Most of the pros learned with this course.Then, along came The Complete Idiot's guide! I initially bought the Kindle version, because I travel a great deal. I Liked it so much that I also bought the print version! The instructions are very clear, and the author also helps you to develop ways to actually say "the impossible sounds", rather than just using substitute sounds.As I understand it, The Maher Course will soon be unavaialable. I think The Complete Idiot's Guide To Ventriloquism will fill that gap nicely. In fact, I think it raises the bar even further.Congratulations to the author for producing such a high quality product that will help ventriloquists entertain audiences for a long time to come!

I knew I wanted to learn ventriloquism, but I didn't know where to start. So I purchased a few books and was left clueless about many aspects of the trade. Then Amazon suggested this book by Taylor Mason. I saw him perform live a few years ago with Bill Gather and he was fantastic. Then I saw him on TV a few times so I decided to get the book.You can tell in the introduction that Mason is a highly educated man. The book #1 is well written. Some of the other books I got on the subject are written by Ventriloquists attempting to be authors, Taylor Mason is a Ventriloquist who is also an author.#2 Everything else about the book is amazingly informative. I could go in more detail but really why bother. If you want to learn Ventriloquism then you MUST buy this book. I've read others, looked online, bought the videos but nothing compares.When I practice I can easily find information if I need to review!And he gives advice for writing scripts and actually getting into the business.

I bought this for my 2 sons who have developed an interest in ventriloquism. This book was suggested by a ventriloquist from our church. They are working together to not only work up skits, but also to make their own puppets.

The first thing you’ll notice is the texture of the cover. It feels like cloth. It’s beautiful. My advice is to first just page through the entire book and just soak in the visual aspects of the photograhs. They are a fabulous representation of textile art. Then go back through again and read the details about each photograh. Then delve into the text. You’ll notice that the “how to” sections like screen printing, for example, have intructions and suggestions listed. There are not a bunch of photos showing each step so from that standpoint it’s not an instruction manual. But there’s plenty of written instruction. Holmes’ descriptions of her own creative processes and those of other artists are fascinating, well written and readable. Even if you never actually do any of the art techniques,this book is a great addition to any crafting library. Enjoy!!

This isn't really a "how to" book. It isn't simply eye candy either. It's a generous look into this artist's process. Her observations and treatment of landscapes are superb. I recommend this book for textile and mixed-media artists. The binding and paper are beautiful, photographs and text are clear. The text is inspirational. I admit that I am biased. I am a Batsford fan!

Loved the photography! The eye candy is beautiful!HOWEVERI want to learn the process. There are a few instructions, but not step by step like you would expect. Not sure if I'm going to keep this or not.

The book is so well presented, beautifully illustrated. A real treat for the eyes and the imagination. Explaining the different forms of printmaking, how to apply these to cloth, utilizing different mediums that are “cloth” friendly. Pretreatments are explained and how to apply, easy to understand. With the different art featured with each design element , holds my interest and makes me want to work through the book, page by page. Well done, and worth every penny.
