This is a great and sadly overlooked Bible translation today. A wonderfully written translation that some have called "the most poetic English version since the King James". In fact, quite a few Southern Baptist Old Testament professors have called this the most faithful translation to the Hebrew poetry.An update of the New English Bible from the 1960s, it is a dynamic equivalence that is gender-inclusive though more of what they call a "middle ground approach" -- inclusive when needed to convey God's love to all (not just "men of God" or "brothers"), but uses it when appropriate rather than the way the NRSV does.If you don't have this Bible version, I would encourage you to do so.....
The New English NT came out in the early '60s, as an attempt to put the Bible into wholly modern English. It was highly successful. This Bible, published in 1991, has an extensive revision of the previous OT translation, designed particularly for oral reading. Cambridge again published the REB in 2014 (evidently they take turns with Oxford) with Absolutely No Changes in the text. The Revised English, 1991 and 2014 printings, is the ONLY BIBLE ENDORSED BY EVERY SINGLE CHRISTIAN CHURCH IN THE U.K. AND IRELAND.
Super handy edition of a respected translation of the Bible. I am using it for my one hour of reading Holy Scripture a day. This edition is good for that because it just gives you the Scripture with minimal footnotes and commentaries. So you can pray the Word of God without getting tempted to study it. Study is good, there is a time pray it too and this edition does just that. Thanks.
My favorite translation of several I've tried. A more sophisticated feel to the text. No sacrificing content for clarity.
Condition was a little worse than expected, but still OK
A MUST-HAVE for any serious Bible study.

I just like this Bible. It's not as clear as the NIV 84 but it is easier to read than KJV. I have a soft spot for it and just love it.
